Non-vegan DIY balm 🐝

Recommended best option:

Vegan minimal ingredient DIY ✨

This week let’s chat about lip balm (sometimes better known as chapstick) 👄 The never-ending theme of being sustainable revolves heavily around plastic reduction. The “by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish” stat gets thrown around a lot, but how much has it actually gotten people to change their habits? 🐠🌊 We should all remember that as advocates for (or even merely as people aware of) sustainability, we need to share advice with others. Part of that is obviously changing our own habits, hence #sustainyourshit ! 🌏
.
While our plastic problem factors heavily into this week’s 3 suggestions, 2 of the 3 are DIY options 💁‍♀️ DIY is great for a few reasons:
1. You can cut down on packaging by using reusable containers + sourcing ingredients responsibly ♻️ #reducereuse (also it’s worth noting that packaging for cosmetics in general is often overused to exaggerate what you’re actually getting)
2. A lot of times DIY is cheaper than buying pre-made 💸 #keepthatcashmoney
3. You get to be selective of what ingredients you use, meaning it’s easier to avoid chemicals and go a more “all natural” simplified approach **This one is particularly important when talking about bathroom/beauty products that literally are touching your skin all day 🌱 #cleanbeauty
.
So for everyone out there that can’t go a day without using chapstick, Burt’s Bees, Eos, or any of the other popular brands out there (don’t blame you), take a pause to consider what happens to that plastic tube or container when you’ve almost reached the end (because let’s be real, it’s always almost impossible to get that last little bit out 🤦‍♂️)
